Zoetis, a global animal health company, offers the West Nile Innovator vaccine that lowers the risk of mosquito-borne viral diseases in horses. To allow horse owners to evaluate the risk and expense of not vaccinating against these diseases, Zoetis wanted to offer an app over the Apple App Store. The app was to be built based on economic models relying on key assumptions and study data.
Starting off with the Excel-based models provided by the Zoetis marketing team, and incorporating valuable feedback and recommendations on expected app usage, the CDS team designed an optimal user experience for an iPad version of the app. Complex calculations set up in Excel had to be broken down and configured in line with the flows and navigation of the app. Once the design mock-ups were approved by the client, the app was constructed in native iOS code and tested extensively through a range of use cases. Links were set up in the app to provide details on specific inputs and outputs, or to open technical bulletins and relevant documents. The app was submitted, and subsequently published, to the App Store.
The West Nile Innovator app has been serving as a valuable tool for horse-owners since its deployment in Sep 2013. Downloads continue to increase as more and more users become aware of the availability of the app.
